Regional Executive Directors (RED's) are the Department of Local Government and Housing’s spokespersons for the Regions and councils first point of contact in the regions.

The REDs provide leadership for the agency in the regions and high level strategic advice and independent assesment of regional issues.

John Tobin is the Manager Local Government Business Support, with responsibility for facilitating and coordinating government support to local government councils to enhance council services. This includes:

monitoring of service levels and coordination of government support
reviews of regional management plans and support for implementation, and
administration of local government grants programs.

Additionally, this unit provides Executive support the to the Northern Territory Grants Commission, an independent statutory authority which allocates financial assistance grants provided by the Australian Government to Northern Territory local governing bodies in the form of general purpose grants and local roads grants. Peter Thornton is the Executive Officer and can be contacted on 8999 8523.

Neil Murray Manager Local Government Financial Services with responsibility for developing materials and providing financial management and administrative support to local government. This unit also administers local government regulatory requirements. Neil Murray can be contacted on 8999 8389.
