Draft and Final Regional Management Plans

Regional Management Plans are a requirement under the new Local Government Act 2008. The Plans are developed from consultation between interested local councils in the region and the Department of Local Government and Housing.

Regional Management Plans address key issues relating to local government in the region. The Plans also cover resource sharing and regional development within each region.

Shire councils must participate in the Regional Management Plan. Municipal councils may participate in the Regional Management Plan, but are not obliged to do so. The Local Government Association of the Northern Territory can also contribute to Regional Management Plans.

The three Regional Management Plans are:

Northern Region comprising:
East Arnhem Shire
Tiwi Islands Shire
West Arnhem Shire
Belyuen Council
Wagait Shire
Coomalie Council, and to the extent agreed:
Darwin City Council
City of Palmerston
Litchfield Shire

Central Region comprising:
Roper Gulf Shire
Victoria Daly Shire, and to the extent agreed:
Katherine Town Council

Southern Region comprising:
Barkly Shire
Central Desert Shire
MacDonnell Shire, and to the extent agreed:
Alice Springs Town Council

The Northern and Central Region Plans have been finalised. The Southern Region Plan will be finalised soon.
