Regional Management Plans

Regional Management Plans are a requirement under the Local Government Act. The plans are developed from consultation between councils in each region and the Department.

Regional Management Plans address key issues relating to local government in the region. The plans also cover resource sharing and regional development within each region.

Shire councils must participate in the Regional Management Plan. Municipal councils may participate in the Regional Management Plan, but are not obliged to do so. The Local Government Association of the Northern Territory may also contribute to Regional Management Plans.

The three Regional Management Plans are:

New plans for 2012 - 2016

Drafts of the new Regional Management Plans for the period 2012 to 2016 have been prepared and are available now for information and feedback from the general public.

The draft plans reflect the results of consultation between the Department of Housing, Local Government and Regional Services (DHLGRS), shire councils, other interested municipal councils and the Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT).

Individuals or bodies are invited to provide feedback through a written representation. Written representations can be submitted from 1 May to 15 June 2012. All representations will be considered.

After considering all representations in consultations with the councils and LGANT, DHLGRS will then prepare final versions of each Regional Management Plan. Final versions of each plan will be available July 2012. 

How to make a representation

A representation must be in writing and received between1 May and 15 June 2012.

A representation can be an objection to or in support of any part or all of a draft Regional Management Plan.

To be valid, your written representation must address at least one of the sections of the draft plan, and you must include your name and address.

You must state the grounds upon which you are making a representation and you should ensure that any additional documentation and information referred to in the representation is attached.

When your representation is received by the department you will receive an acknowledgement.
